Second Opinions on Glasses

New glasses not right?

Blurry, tiring, distorted, or just not as clear as you expected? Dr. Tumolo, an optometrist and licensed optician, regularly sees patients for a second look when glasses made elsewhere aren’t working. Often the answer is in the prescription, the lens design or the measurements, and each can be checked.

What we check

  1. Your prescription. A careful refraction on our Nidek RT-6100 digital refractor, with OPD-Scan III wavefront measurements when needed.
  2. Your current glasses. We read the lenses to confirm they match the prescription, including any prism.
  3. The measurements. Pupil distance, fitting height and lens centers must line up with where your eyes look.
  4. The lens design. Some prescriptions do better in single vision than progressives, or need a different design or material.
  5. Trial frame confirmation before anything new is ordered.

Paying for your visit

We see patients with vision insurance, medical insurance and self-pay. Self-pay and out-of-network patients receive an itemized receipt to submit to their plan, and FSA and HSA cards are welcome. Call either office for self-pay details.

Common questions

My new glasses are blurry. Should I wait to get used to them?

Mild adjustment is normal for a few days, especially with a big change or new progressives. If vision is still blurry, uncomfortable or distorted after a week or two, have the prescription and measurements checked.

Do I need to bring my glasses?

Yes. Bring the glasses that aren’t working, any previous pair you liked, and your prescription if you have it.

Is a second opinion a separate type of visit?

No. It’s handled as a regular eye exam, with extra attention to your glasses.

Can you fix glasses that were made somewhere else?

We recheck your prescription and the glasses themselves. If new lenses are needed, we can make them with precise measurements by our licensed opticians.
