Use Your Benefits

Year-End Benefits

Use your vision benefits before December 31.

Many vision plans renew on January 1, and many flexible spending account (FSA) balances have to be used by the end of the plan year. If you haven't had your eye exam this year, or you're due for new glasses or contacts, now is a good time to use what you've already paid for.

Tip: December appointments, especially Saturdays, fill quickly. Book early.

Vision insuranceMost vision plans include a yearly eye exam and an allowance for glasses or contacts. Unused benefits usually don't carry over to the new year.
FSAFSA money is often "use it or lose it." Some plans allow a short grace period or a small carryover, so check your plan's deadline.
HSAHSA funds roll over from year to year, but eye exams, glasses and contacts are common eligible expenses whenever you need them.

Common questions

Do my vision benefits roll over to next year?

Usually not. Most vision plans reset their exam and eyewear allowances each year, often on January 1, and unused benefits don't carry over. Your plan's details may differ, so we're happy to check for you.

Can I use my FSA or HSA for glasses and contacts?

In most cases, yes. Eye exams, prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses and contact lenses are common FSA and HSA eligible expenses. Check your plan for its rules and deadline.

Do you accept FSA and HSA cards?

Yes. Beyond 2020 Vision Specialists accepts HSA and FSA cards, as well as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, CareCredit, Apple Pay and cash.

Can you check my benefits before my appointment?

Yes. Call the office you plan to visit, and we'll check your vision and medical coverage before your visit.

Can I use my benefits for a medical eye problem, like dry eye?

Medical eye problems, such as dry eye, eye infections and injuries, can often be billed to medical insurance instead of vision insurance. Call us and we'll help you figure out the best way to use your coverage.
