Comprehensive Eye Exams
It's about more than blurry vision.
Eye exams are vital to your overall health.
Along with checking how clearly you see, your doctor looks for early signs of eye disease, checks how your eyes work together, and explains everything as they go.

What's included
Your doctor decides which tests you need based on your history, but most comprehensive exams include:
- Visual acuity: how sharply you see, near and far
- Refraction: your exact glasses prescription
- Visual fields: a check for blind spots
- Eye pressure (tonometry): screening for glaucoma
- Slit lamp exam: a magnified look at the front of the eye
- Retinal imaging: photos of the back of the eye, including diabetic screening
- Optic nerve and retina exam: the health of the nerve, retina and blood vessels
More than your vision
Serious health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure are often first spotted during an eye exam, and many eye diseases have no symptoms early on. A yearly exam is one of the simplest things you can do for your long-term health.
How often?
Most adults and children should have a comprehensive exam every year, unless your doctor recommends otherwise. We'll let you know the right schedule for your eyes.
Walk-in and same-day eye exams
Do you take walk-ins for eye exams?
Yes. Walk-ins are welcome at our Odessa and East Lake offices. Booking online or calling ahead is the best way to get the time you want, especially on Saturdays.
Can I get an eye exam today?
Often, yes. Call the office you would like to visit and we will find the soonest time. Same-day visits for red eyes, eye pain, injuries and sudden vision changes are available at every office. Medical and urgent eye care.
How long does an eye exam take?
Time with the doctor is usually about 15 minutes, after a few quick tests with our technicians. Allow extra time if your eyes are dilated or you are also being fitted for contact lenses.
Wear contacts?
A contact lens fitting is a separate exam from a comprehensive eye exam. Just tell us when you book and we'll schedule both. About contact lenses
“Absolutely top notch! The doctors are very thorough, they explain each test & the purpose for it, but more importantly they don't rush you & let you ask all the questions you need to so you understand. They made me feel comfortable and appreciated!”Mike G. · Odessa, Google review
