Surgery Co-Management

Surgery Co-Management

Eye surgery, with care close to home.

When you need eye surgery, such as cataract surgery or LASIK, our doctors refer you to a surgeon and take care of you before and after the procedure at our Odessa and East Lake offices.

You get the surgeon's expertise for the procedure and a familiar doctor for everything around it.

Before surgeryA complete eye exam, a clear explanation of what we find and your options, and a referral to a surgeon. We share your records so the surgeon has what they need.
After surgeryFollow-up visits at our office as arranged with your surgeon, to check how your eyes are healing and how well you see.
New glassesOnce your eyes have healed, we update your prescription. At Odessa, most single-vision glasses are made while you wait (same-day glasses).

Cataract surgery

Cataracts cloud the lens inside the eye, so things look hazy, dim or less colorful, and night driving gets harder. Early on, an updated glasses prescription often keeps vision clear. When that's no longer enough, we refer you to a cataract surgeon, help you prepare, and care for you after surgery. Learn more about cataracts, including a patient's story about Dr. Tumolo guiding him through cataract surgery.

LASIK and vision correction surgery

If you'd like to see clearly without glasses or contacts, our doctors can check whether your eyes and prescription are a good fit for LASIK or another vision correction procedure. Dry eye can affect comfort and vision after surgery, so we look for it and treat it first when needed. Then we refer you to a surgeon and see you for follow-up care afterward.

Other eye surgeries

Our doctors co-manage other eye surgeries too. If a surgeon has recommended a procedure, ask us how we can help with your care before and after it.

Common questions

What is surgery co-management?

Co-management means your optometrist and your surgeon share your care. Beyond 2020 Vision Specialists examines your eyes, refers you to a surgeon, and provides your care before and after surgery, while the surgeon performs the procedure.

Do you co-manage cataract surgery?

Yes. When updated glasses no longer keep your vision clear, our doctors refer you to a cataract surgeon and care for you before and after surgery, then update your glasses prescription once your eyes have healed.

Do you co-manage LASIK?

Yes. Our doctors can check whether your eyes and prescription are a good fit for LASIK or other vision correction surgery, refer you to a surgeon, and see you for follow-up care afterward.

Will my insurance cover it?

Cataract surgery is a medical procedure that is usually billed to medical insurance. LASIK is usually an elective procedure that insurance doesn't cover. Coverage varies, so call us and we'll help you check your plan.
